Osmometer / CryoScope
Description
The Everest OsmoLAB series are the latest freezing point osmometers introducing a brand new crystallisation technique. These new osmometers combine the convential properties of modern analysers with the new technique of ultrasound induced freezing point agitation.
Of the colligative properties, measurement of the freezing point, where applicable, allows the concentration of the solution to be easily determined with great precision. The freezing point of pure water is precisely 0.000°C atmospheric pressure. Ideally, of a non-dissociating solute such as glucose, dissolved in 1 kg of pure water, depresses the freezing point by exactly 1.858°C. This figure is known as the freezing point depression constant of water. It is equal to 1 Osmol or 1000 Milli-Osmol (mOsm). The Everest osmometers are devices for the extremely precise determination of the concentration of solutions by means of automatic freezing point measurement. The Everest osmometers are utilising high precision thermometers to sense the sample temperature, to control the degree of supercooling and freeze induction and measure the freezing point of the sample. The osmometers can routinely determine differences of 1 mOsm/kg H2O.

The OsmoLAB series is a fully automatic working osmometer. It provides auto-calibration, selfdiagnostics and statistical analysis. Computer interface printout capabilities increase the utility of these osmometers for any busy laboratory. Small sample requirement allows you to assay hard-to-get or expensive samples. Since solution concentration, or osmolality, is fundamental to all physiochemical processes in the body involving diffusion of solute or transfer of fluids through membranes, knowledge of the various body fluid osmolalities is fundamentally useful in prognosis.
Also a low cost alternative to the osmometers ´OsmoLAB 16S´ is the single sample osmometer ´OsmoLAB ONE´.
